This month has been a real bear market month for Bitcoin but instead of focusing on that and all the news we see everyday, I wanted to see if anyone has some good tips on really good low cost food.

This is like 4,500 sats but it has a ton of flavor decent noodles and spiciness kick to it for the price. If you add a can of tuna to it, tastes even better.

๐Ÿค™ Would be interested to know what everyone else has done and/or if changed anything recently.

Was also looking at hard boiled eggs with hot sauce as another potential Bear Market Food. ๐Ÿฅš๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

Pork gets pretty cheap if you buy shoulder or butt. I think HEB has it for under $3/lb on sale sometimes. Cook it in a sealed big foil package lined with parchment in your oven for 7 hours and you have awesome taco meat for the week.

oh that sounds like a meal deal, i try to stay away from pork ever since i found out its bad for you, if i do eat pork its only for pastor tacos these days

reply

I didn't know pork was bad for you. I eat it a lot.

ya my friend @Ov1 told me some horrific stuff about it a year ago, ever since, I started eating less of it then recently stopped eating it, its a bummer cause i like pastor tacos don't really care much for bacon or ribs

Prepackaged processed stuff is not going to be the best value option. It seems cheap but there's basically no nutrient density either.

Cook yourself up some beans and whatever root veggies you like best, maybe some cabbage. All that stuff is dirt cheap and very filling. Use a lot of avocado oil too.

ya cabbage is good idea, but it produces a lot of farts lol

There are no solutions. There are only tradeoffs.

I like cooking up some pasta and eating it with this tomato & red pepper soup from Trader Joes:

Sprinkle some basil on and add protein of your choice

reply

oh wow, so do you throw some cheese on it too or is it not like a pasta type sauce?

reply

personally I prefer not to add cheese but I think cheese would go well with it

It's hard to beat microwave ramen. Though, a box of that stuff is only ~500 calories. So it's more like a snack than a meal by itself and 4.5k sats for a snack, even if it's tasty, is pretty average.

I feel weak/sick when I eat food like that, so if I can't cook, I prefer:

  • buying prepared meat (rotisserie chicken or salmon or meatballs for sprouts/whole foods)
  • microwaving sweet potatoes
    • or, buying a pack of tortillas (and eating them cold)
    • or, making a batch of rice (you can buy microwave rice)
  • buying/making seasoning or sauces (if necessary)

For meeting daily energy needs, it probably works out to the same price and is more nutritious.

ya the rice idea is good one, cause then you just need a meat and a sauce, was also thinking corn tortillas and rotisserie and a salsa would be perfect for a taco

There are four of us at home. Beef is a bit pricey at the market, so I only buy it when it's on sale. We eat a lot of pork; what I do is buy the whole cut and then break it down into pieces at home, making sure to use every part:

  • The bone for broth
  • Some of the trimmed meat for steaks
  • Another portion cut into pieces for frying, or for dishes like rice with meat, etc.
  • The skin for frying and rendering out the fat (lard), which I then use for other things in the kitchen

A good wife knows how to make the most of about 3kg of meat, hahaha!

Potatoes are still one of the best deals around :))

markets are temporary. Peanut butter sandwiches are forever. ๐Ÿ˜„ As a Dutchman, peanut butter on whole grain bread is probably one of the best sat-per-calorie investments I know. Add some eggs or canned tuna, and youโ€™ve got a meal thatโ€™s hard to beat on a budget.
