I get your point, but here it's a choice out of 5 options! Honestly, it might even backfire, people won't even know they can pick something else because it's hidden. Some straight-up miss the 'more types' button.
Five is more overloading than two. Two is more overloading than one (which is what I hope to reduce it to with a more intelligent form). When choosing between:
- people missing other types
- people giving up because they don't understand/are overwhelmed by the options
I choose (1).
If 5 is too much for you, then I’m out of arguments. I don't think this is just a black-and-white thing like you're saying (1 or 2), but whatever. I'm just trying to make it better, call's yours in the end.
Yeah, it’s different in terms of cognitive load. According to my ~math, it’s like 0.01% different. For normal people, anyway. Maybe it's higher for complete dummies! ahahahah

more choices - especially when you're unfamiliar with each option - are cognitively overwhelming. it makes zero sense only if you think that isn't true.
