@benthecarman just requested a NIP to define BOLT12 in nostr specs.

Tell me more

The NGO's must have called an emergency meeting upon seeing CLINK-Offers uptake for zaps... it already solved no LNURL HTTP

The delay tolerance aspect sounds nice on the surface, until clients have to implement it, waiting for settlement because some muppet is running a lightning node on a phone shifts all the liability to nostr clients which will also now need additional remote wallet connection surface.

Seems like the "everything stupid in Lightning is downstream of the mobile node fantasy" is trying to encroach further into Nostr

looks like you've upset someone lol

Noooo you can't just invent a simple protocol that works better than ours without a grant interview!

Finally. I have never set up a self custodial lightning address. We need BOLT12 privacy too.

Bolt12 doesn't do anything for privacy, you can use blinded paths with bolt11.

Awesome.

It would be nice to be able to specify both a primary and a fallback (lno...) address.

This would enable people to use a service like coinos.io or second.tech to collect bitcoin that couldn't be delivered to the primary address. (N.B. coinos helpfully has a 'sweep' feature that sweeps bitcoin to other address you specify, periodically, or once a value threshold is reached).

Client-side logic would then switch from the primary address to the secondary address after P miliseconds or Q failed attempts at the primary.

Justin - Bolt 12 has a whole shopping list of benefits over Bolt 11 inc. significantly better gossip.

An offer is REUSABLE. One static string, unlimited invoices, fetched over the network itself.

That's a shrug for a human tapping a zap button. It's the whole ballgame for software paying software — no HTTP roundtrip to a host that may be down, no endpoint discovery per payment. Just a string an agent can hold and pay against indefinitely.

Nostr identity plus a static offer starts looking like a payment address that never expires.
