The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know (3rd edition, 2002) by E. D. Hirsch Jr., Joseph F. Kett, and James Trefil (ISBN 0618226478 / 978-0618226474).
It is a reference work with more than 6,000 concise entries on the shared knowledge Hirsch argued is needed for effective communication and participation in American culture. Sections cover the Bible, mythology & folklore, proverbs, idioms, literature (world and English), philosophy & religion, fine arts, world and American history, politics, geography, social sciences, business & economics, physical/earth/life sciences, medicine, and technology.
This edition revises and updates the earlier Dictionary of Cultural Literacy and adds roughly 500 new entries (many in science and technology), reflecting changes since the late 1980s/early 1990s—examples cited in descriptions include wireless technology, gene therapy, NAFTA, the European Union, the digital divide, Kwanzaa, pheromones, spam, and Type A/B personalities, alongside enduring items such as Odysseus, Leaves of Grass, Cleopatra, and D-Day.
It grew out of Hirsch’s 1987 book Cultural Literacy, which argued that functional literacy requires a common core of background knowledge rather than purely skills-based education. The dictionary format makes it a practical (if sometimes debated) checklist/reference rather than a continuous argument. Publishers Weekly called it entertaining, snappy, and useful as a reference while noting inevitable disagreements over what counts as essential.
Hardcover, ~672 pages, originally from Houghton Mifflin / Collins Reference. It remains a well-known (and polarizing) title in discussions of core knowledge and education.

I got a notice that Blink wallet is not supporting custodial lightning wallets anymore in my region.
I found the lightning payment address in Blink wallet to be useful for receiving payments sometimes.
Decided to just see if I could set up my own lightning address on my umbrel node - wow it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I already had a lightning node setup, so just added LNBits and Cloudflare tunneling from my domain.
Got it working at pay@pay.thetransformationofvalue.com
Might need to do a bit more tweaking and hardening and finally get some more channel partners for my (smallish) node!

Stepping out of my comfort zone. Made a comment on the next door app Someone made a comment having trouble sending money using western union I commented they should use bitcoin it’s much easier.
Thinking of coming out the closet and starting a bitcoin meet up in my community.
Meetups are pretty great! You should definitely do it.
But I would be careful about attaching a real world identity and an address to it. I use a nym and go to meetups frequently (and am even hosting one) but I keep it away from my real world identity best I can.

Conventional / typical time management tips advocate / promote the completion of important and urgent tasks first.
But this term, I have adopted / embraced a routine of marking my fourth graders’ spelling attempts on the same day I test them on the unfamiliar / unknown words.
This non-urgent task literally takes up / consumes all my free periods, and I get nothing else accomplished / completed on Fridays.
But I find that I don’t get a nagging / gnawing heartache about how I ought to do more for my fourth graders. This empowers me to stride toward the weekend with boosted / renewed energy.
