I forgot my graphene even has that feature. Pretty cool. I want more details of the case. It doesn't seem like a slam dunk from the prosecution's standpoint.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sympathetic to activists of the socially disruptive / property destructive kind, but regardless of taste and their skills in efficient resistance, the thing to learn from this is that if you find yourself fucking with the government, you anyway need to enable yourself to do better than live wipe a phone in front of your interrogator.

Samuel Tunick sounds like a domestic terrorist

Grok:
Samuel (Sam) Tunick is an Atlanta-based activist, musician, and Oberlin College graduate known primarily for his involvement in the Stop Cop City (Defend the Atlanta Forest) movement opposing the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.

He is described by supporters as empathetic, community-oriented, involved in urban farming, and active in Atlanta’s Jewish community (including agricultural fellowship and teaching at a local temple).

In January 2025, while returning from the Dominican Republic through Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, Tunick was stopped for secondary inspection by CBP’s Tactical Terrorism Response Team. Authorities had flagged him for “suspected terrorism activities” linked to his activism. Agents questioned him (his lawyers say under the pretext of suspected child sexual abuse material) and demanded he unlock his Google Pixel phone running GrapheneOS. He provided a passcode that triggered the OS’s duress feature, wiping the device’s data. Agents seized the phone anyway.

In November 2025, he was indicted on one federal count under 18 U.S.C. § 2232(a) for knowingly destroying/damaging property (the phone’s digital contents) to prevent its lawful seizure. He was arrested in early December 2025 during a traffic stop in Atlanta (involving DHS and FBI), pleaded not guilty, and was released on bond. His attorneys have argued the detention and search were unlawful (denied lawyer access multiple times, no warrant or Miranda warnings, pretextual questioning) and sought suppression of evidence. The case has drawn attention as a rare (or first) prosecution involving GrapheneOS’s privacy features and broader issues of border search powers versus digital privacy and activism.

Public biographical details beyond his activism, education, music, and this case remain limited in available reporting.

reply

What terroristic acts are being alleged?

reply

He is an activist associated with Defend the Atlanta Forest / Stop Cop City, domestic and eco terrorist organizations

They have engaged in arson and property destruction, one reason they are on DHS watchlist

Grok:
A Homeland Security agent circulated his name and photo to CBP’s Tactical Terrorism Response Team and an FBI joint terrorism task force officer shortly before his January 24, 2025 arrival at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, citing the investigation into those suspected activities

Was there a warrant for the seizure of his phone? Was there reason to suspect that there was specific evidence of criminal activity on that phone, or was this a "fishing expedition"?

reply

No warrant

Yes there was reason to suspect

reply

It's just that you didn't use the magic word. You see, you should have talked about that interview with Emily Wilson where she says that Wasabi is the best way to be a cypherpunk. Leave out the part where she said she only said it for the CCs. Just you know, the plain truth, of the most important thing ever invented: Wasabi. You cannot deny this because it is the universal truth. Nothing happens in the world without Wasabi. If Putin farts he better proclaim the superiority of Wasabi beforehand, or the fart will be downzapped.

reply

Hahaha

reply

LOL

reply

Good point. I'll see if I can find the extended version of the interview that goes on a Wasabi rant.

What do I do with these cowboy credits?

reply

Use it to zap generously, and get a higher share of the daily rewards

reply

I can take 7k cc if it helps. Paying 6k sats.

reply

I might be into that idea. I think I need to get my lightning set up here again. If someone sends sats and I have no wallet connected can I hold sats on stacker or do they convert to CC?

reply

You can only hold rewarded sats on SN. If you want, zap this comment 10k cc. I’ll end up with 7k sats because of the sibyl fee. Hit me back with a 6k sat invoice and I’ll pay it straight from my LN wallet.

reply

Better to zap a territory owner in their territory, since we get more of those sats.

reply

Yeah, territory owners got it made.

Most of the 'Libertarian Bitcoin freedom fighters' have given up on BTC ever being a MoE.

They prefer the convenience, ease and compliance with nation state regulators that CC shitcoins provide.

CCs work just fine within this Libertarian circle jerking virtue signalling social media echo chamber...but they have zero value outside of it.

If you want you can still attach LN send and receive wallets and minimise your own use of CC shitcoins while maximising your use of and support for the LN, but it's increasingly rare for anyone to bother.

My check order is notifications (because subscription) -> new -> more -> more -> top/downzaps.

Maybe I should reorder and do downzaps straight after subscribe.

I check when there's a huge payout (indicating a war), or when I see my own stuff getting downzapped (my most recent post to ~books is already my most-downzapped! ever!).

I don't have to

Good idea

Same setup here, but I still like to see what's getting downzapped!

reply

Same. I mostly used to use it to check downzapped comments, because the ones above 150 or so sats down, are often disagreement instead of just slop eradication. But... it's like the entire top50 of downzapped comments is Justin now - might as well just subscribe to his comments.

Today was not the first time I donned my killer suit and presented in front of a captive and enthusiastic audience who was probably swooning over my handsome demeanour. But it was the first time my son was a member of the audience. When I picked him up subsequently at the student care centre, he asked if he could watch “Captain Planet” tonight. So, not only did he listen intently to my hook, but he also made it a point to act upon it. He also said that he was proud of me because if the roles were reversed, he would have been embarrassed speaking in front of the entire school.
