I agree. And I may have been too direct in my complaint. There is a truth to what really happened and there is a point in trying to preserve it.

I do think the more interesting question here is at what point have bards been allowed to take poetic liberties, while preserving the core.

Did cyclops really exist, sirens and giants? I don't know, but that's the mystery that draws me to the poem.
