The bears came out and feasted on the market. META missed earnings had low free cash flow and now everyone thinks the AI trade is over. But are the bulls back?

Can they stay?

🟩 or🟥?

Question:Question:

If Stacker News went public with the ticker SNZ would you buy shares? What valuation would it have? Explain your answer with your guess for today’s bonus

Bulls win (🟩)

reply

🟩

I'd buy a few shares just to support the community. If it kept growing without sacrificing its culture, I could see a valuation around $100–250 million.

Before I met you and followed your posts, I wasn't very interested in the stock market because I didn't have the conditions to invest and buy stocks... But for some time now, even though I don't have stocks, I read and observe the market conditions and news related to it every day, and it's very interesting to me, and I'm learning more about stocks and topics that affect prices. In answer to your question, I have to say that I don't know if this stock exists or if it will be offered in the future, but I would like to buy some stock now that I can afford it and just to enter the market, if the price is compatible with my conditions, maybe this will be the first stock I buy... I apologize that my comment was very long and beginner, and I also have a question. I would be grateful if you could answer it. I saw in one of your posts that it was about one million sn shares or one million satoshis. I don't know exactly. Can you give a brief explanation about it?

reply

That was one of my old investment series. Not one million shares but what’s a better buy one million sats or a stock at the cost of 1 million sats and which would give the investor a better return

Only if SNZ pays quarterly dividends in native Lightning sats ⚡️

Valuation? 100 Billion Sats or we riot.

Love it!!

🟩 100% buying.

SN isn't just a forum, it's proving that value for value and Lightning native micro tipping can replace surveillance ad models.

Yes, I would buy. Network effects are powerful, and Bitcoin-native communities are still early. I'd put a fair valuation closer to $500 million–1 billion if user growth and revenue continued to accelerate.

a SN believer!

I have no idea how to work out the valuation, but after being around here for years, my impression is that SN doesn’t make any money (probably intentionally). So if I’m looking at it as an investor, I wouldn’t buy it right now. Maybe I’d throw some money in just because I like it, or just for the gamble! ahahah

🟩 Pass on the stock, hold the sats.

Stacker News’ whole point is building a native Bitcoin economy. Buying paper equity via TradFi feels backwards.

reply

Fair enough but you do know SNZ would sell shares to rise capital to expand operations. give k00b some help!

Traditional social media is breaking because of corporate ads and data harvesting. Direct value-for-value micro-payments are the only sustainable future for online content and also kills the bot and spam problems that are currently ruining platforms like X and Reddit. Buying . valuation guess is $6 to 8 million. 🟩

🟩

Not at launch.

I'd wait for 2–3 quarters of public reporting to see if user retention keeps growing once the hype fades. Early social network IPOs are notoriously volatile.

Valuation: Start speculative at $20M and wait for real earnings data.

🟩 Good luck getting SEC clearance. An IPO for a platform whose core mechanics rely on micro-transactions, anonymous user tipping, and permissionless payouts is a compliance landmine. The legal cost alone drags the valuation down to $10M–$15M

Sheesh so bearish

🟩

I’d actively short SNZ on day one.

Community-driven platforms lose their soul the second public shareholders demand quarterly growth. Once SN is forced to put up ad banners or sell user data to satisfy Wall Street, the core pleb userbase will exit.

Valuation collapses to <$5M within 2 years.

reply

You do know SNZ would go public to raise money. Do you want k00b eating Top Ramen forever?

🟩

Hard pass on equity. I’d rather just stack the sats I earn from zaps. SNZ ticker misses the whole point of the platform.

reply

So F k00b then?

🟩

Reddit trades around a ~$10B - $15B market cap with ~70M+ DAUs. Stacker News is niche, hyper focused, and monetized via micro transactions rather than ads. Realistically, an initial listing valuation would sit around $10M to $25M.

reply

No too shabby

I'd pass. Niche social platforms are hard to monetize, and Bitcoin communities are still relatively small compared to mainstream social media. Unless SN found a durable revenue stream beyond its core audience, I'd estimate a valuation of only $5–10 million.

reply

So k00b can HFSP huh?

I love SN, but opportunity cost is a thing. Why buy SNZ equity when I can just buy spot BTC? Every dollar put into SNZ is a dollar not accumulating sovereign money

🟩

Buying equity in a Lightning native platform feels counterintuitive unless dividends are paid strictly in sats. Valuation wise, maybe $15M to $20M based on current user activity.

reply

And to help k00b with resources

reply

🟩
Probably not. Going public often means pressure for quarterly growth, and that can change the incentives that made a community great in the first place. I'd value it at under $10 million until it proved it could scale profitably.
