There is no real reason to update the firmware unless you intend to generate a new seed and continue using the device (which seems unwise given the current situation and how hastily the update was issued).
100% there are some cheap ass bitcoiners out there, who did do all the dice rolls and do have a passphrase, who are just like, "I paid 300,000 sats for this thing and I am damn well gonna use it"
If you generated your seed outside of the Coldcard and imported it in. I am pretty sure it will be fine just like any other hardware wallet.
The people who are screwed are the folks who didn’t do this.
Plus the Q can still be a solid offline password manager!
You are most likely correct, and I actually verified for myself that the dice roll generation is working correctly on my Mk4 device.
But I would nonetheless throw caution to the wind here and migrate away from CC.
Also, if Coinkite goes bust, then there will be no more firmware updates and future vulnerabilities will not be patched.

That is true! I never thought about that
That would make sense
Hypothesis is that the firmware must be compatible with the model version. Attempting to update an Mk3 with Mk4 firmware will brick the device.
