Donald Trump claimed he shot a two-under-par 70 at his own golf club, declared himself the champion, and stood there while club members handed him trophies.
This was not a disputed result awaiting verification.
It was an absurdity performed in public.
Anyone who seriously plays golf knows what a 70 looks like.
The golfers standing around him knew exactly what they were watching.
They did not believe him.
They complied with him.
They smiled, applauded, and completed the ceremony as though managing an infant whose fantasy could not be interrupted.
That is the story.
Trump lying is no longer remarkable.
What is remarkable is watching grown adults knowingly turn the lie into a public ritual.
It reminds me of parts of the church, the SN community, and the country itself:
People recognize the dishonesty but continue performing loyalty because truth might cost them access, comfort, belonging, or status.
And yes, the whiteness of the scene matters.
White adults reorganized reality around the emotional needs of a powerful white man.
Imagine Barack Obama claiming he shot 70 at his own golf course, declaring himself champion, and accepting a trophy from people who knew he had not earned it.
Nobody wanted to be the person who stopped the ceremony.
So they handed Trump the trophy.
Not because he won.
Because they had agreed to pretend that he did.
The emperor wears no clothes. Shhhhh...
Maybe he played off the kids tees and everyone else used the tournament tees! How could those people stand there without any shame and not challenge it?
Short term gain for a lifetime of embarrassment when it all comes tumbling down in a few years.
