In the municipality where I live, there's a huge, empty lot (I don't know if it's private or state owned) where a makeshift cat shelter has sprung up. It wasn't originally intended as such, but little by little, it developed into a haven for cats. So far, 43 cats have been counted; some are born there, and others are abandoned. Honestly, that number seems low to me; judging by appearances, there appear to be many more. If you walk along nearby streets, you'll find at least three cats on every corner. No matter where you go, you'll see a stray cat.
Some people have access to this place and have built small shelters for the cats using recycled materials, so they can take refuge from the rain or the intense sun. People from the community also bring them food when they can.
Many were hiding inside those shelters, but at night it's incredible how the streets are filled with huge cats of all colors.
My daughter says, "I'd love to have a mansion and take in every cat I find to care for them." And honestly, yes, imagine having an animal sanctuary. It breaks my heart to see malnourished or injured cats. Some will say it's the law of life and that the strongest survive, others are crueler and see them as pests, choosing to poison them.
