And recalled a conversation with @Scoresby about how canaries are a cool idea with often poor execution. Seems like another example. I don't really understand what OP's logic is... Samourai seems to have been caught completely off guard in the pre dawn raid in April 2024. I don't think they were ever served a warrant unless I'm mistaken.
Either way it strikes me as faulty logic to say: because thing happened with Samourai therefore that thing happening in Boltz means they are compromised. If they renewed the canary isn't that as good as the original canary?
I'd kindly suggest that if your life depends on a canary, you're doing something wrong and you should rethink your approach to living.
If you're going to use a canary you need to be dilligent about it. If you can just put a new one up after the old one expired it kind of makes the whole thing pointless.

In fact, considering that letting it lapse completely nullifies the value of having it, putting it back up could be interpreted as further evidence of trouble.

I think the logic falls apart for this reason: if they had no canary for any period of time while operating at all, then there's no guarantee they weren't under duress to put the canary up in the first place...
It just seems like such a messy thing to maintain it's not a good idea to begin with.
