I gave these people the benefit of the doubt... I really did. I don't like spam either and posted extensively about it over the last year
I don't think 'NFTs' or 'memecoins' or 99.9% of metaprotocols have any long-term value I think they are endlessly-reproducible junk that's sold (only when profitable) to unsophisticated speculators during a bull market.
That's it.
However the NFT fad has died out
And it has 'died' out' on Bitcoin as well, as evidenced by the low LOW fees on Bitcoin over the last year
Right now the vast majority of the 'spam' is very small op_returns by a bot spending the same... UTXO to itself over and over (which would NOT be prevented by Bip-110).
See the large number of small transactions all uniform in size and value sent for pennies each
However all this proves is that users aren't spending Bitcoin enough - not that the fees are too high or that miners are 'malicious'. See the block below with considerably less spam at all of 3 sats/vbyte:
See how much less highlighted stuff there is? At 3 sats/vbyte? Ya that's way less "arbitrary data" at ~27 cents fee per transaction... a whopping 3 sats/vbyte.
See how the spam is easily outbid even at low or relatively anemic fee rates?
Now see the posts by the (Bip-110) Bippers:
"Bitcoin is Money" yes except these scammers don't want to actually spend their Bitcoin.
Que the random, technical arguments about how the chain is "stalled" and simply needs a... Proof of Work change to resume function
How about actually spending some Bitcoin? You know, actually tipping miners so that they wouldn't need to mine "the spam?" and the spam is Easily Outbid?
Now "the community" ie THEM is deciding on a Proof of Work change for... reasons in private discussion groups... to have 'new miners' and a new 'algorithm' that they choose at the time and place of their own making.
Without any conflicts of interest? How is that even remotely believable?
It started as being anti-spam, which is understandable.
Then the spam dried up and the spenders were... frankly few and far between.
And now that the Bip-110 crowd failed miserably at actually using Bitcoin or making technical arguments that were well-received as to how their fork stopped the spam... they want a proof-of-work change.
Effectively rewarding coins to whomever THEY want
And deciding what Bitcoin is.
I am simply incredulous at how shallow the whole thing is... Bitcoin isn't perfect no-one familiar enough with how it actually works would suggest otherwise.
However all the 'influencing' as to how there would be no 'chain split' was hopelessly dishonest.
It just goes to show that Twitter is not the real world, and certain people will blatantly lie about something that they probably know isn't true (have to know). It amazes me how ridiculous the whole thing is.
"It's been the plan all along. This is a rug."

Indeed. I think it shows the deranging power of tribal social media.
When these people had to actually put up and convince their 'flock' not only to run a node... but act economically and mine at home
They completely failed. A serious strategy would have been to convince your 'followers' to actually buy bitaxes and point them at Ocean's bip-110 pool but it requires real electricity to do that (and not even that much maybe 30 cents a day!)
And like I said at ~ 3 sats/vbyte the vast majority of the arb data is outbid anyway so what is the point? The whole thing is just so shallow almost everything the Bippers said was flat out incorrect.
It feels as if even for mild disagreements these days, any molehill will do as one to die on.
The Tea Tax in 1773 also was, at the time, a mild disagreement.
I really like how much this escalated in the 24-48 hours before the Bip activated. For months beforehand, it was insisted this was just to be a soft fork, nothing too radical, a little something to turn up the heat and let the network know we mean busin—"Actually we are BSV now."
(Unfortunately this total fuckup has made sane governance dramatically more difficult)
