I felt like asking because this seemed weird to me. Despite the nework shrinking, I had 4 channels opened to my node over the span of one week, each 4.2-4.4 million sats from different nodes. I've never seen this before, and it just seems kind of spooky. Any thoughts on why this would have happened?

the network is shrinkingthe network is getting more efficient"the network" is more than just nodes and their public channels... it's also all the users with LN sats on a wallet ready to spend... it's also the websites and merchants accepting LN as payment (sometimes LN is the only method for BTC)
Not seeing any evidence that Lightning's "network effect" is shrinking at all. So the fact it keeps running with fewer nodes/capacity is evidence that node operators are getting more capital efficient. Bullish.
This. I'm experiencing the opposite of shrinkage as an end-user. I am able to use LN more often because acceptance today is better than it was a year ago, let alone longer ago than that, and reliably, for larger invoice amounts too.
Maybe liquidity-at-rest has shrunk, but isn't that per definition inefficiently deployed capital?

this. I have seen this in my node. That time I think it was triggered by CLBOSS, its algo thought I was a good peer.
I think there was some chaos on the network (I heard wallet of satoshi closed a bunch of channels, Zeus's LSP went down for a while, boltz closed up shop -- all of which may have meant people were looking for new channel partners).
I will second this as the main reason.
