I wonder how many guys like you are really out there?

Of my age? Tens of thousands.
Of younger people that had the benefit of learning from the mistakes from guys my age without wasting years? Millions.

To be in power, you don’t need guns or money or even numbers. You just need the will to do what the other guy wouldn’t

Then why the hell didn't anybody notice the coldcard bug? Have all these guys sold out and cashed in on shitcoin projects? Can we really expect better from guys who are basically operating as volunteers.

Because it was really, really hard to "spot" and no one cared enough to hack through the code. jamesob claims he spotted it though. I don't really believe him because he's cloutchaser and his evidence got deleted by Signal message expiry (lmao!!!) but on the off chance that he's being 100% honest, it was spotted.

So does that mean that AI is all we can trust? God help us!

reply

Not at all. AI is just an analysis tool. It means that if you want to be your own bank, your choices are:

  1. Play money only, or
  2. Take it deeply serious and defend your stack like a bank would

"I cannot review this" is an option. It means you need to hedge in another way.

Good advice, and it would work for an obsessed lunatic like me. What about the normie who recognizes the problem with fiat and wants self sovereignty? We can't get them to attach a wallet to Stacker News.

Edit: coinos

  • "normie that recognizes the problem with fiat" just goes on the stonkmarket and buys some VTI/VOO/SPY/QQQ, preferably a mix of all of em.
  • "normie who recognizes the problem with fiat and wants self sovereignty" is not a normie. No normie wants self-sovereignty. That's the least convenient option.

We can't get them to attach a wallet to Stacker News.

Forget about connected wallets. That won't sustain you. No one on SN earns the sats needed to feed them and their family consistently.

Fully self sovereign lightning the easiest way is:

  1. Send sats to Blixt or Zeus
  2. Find a good channel partner
  3. Open private channel
  4. Send invoices and spend sats

I meant the technical challenge, not the rewards.

I understand, but the technical challenge to having a connected wallet on SN, and the technical challenge to having a fully self-sovereign setup is not the same problem. The former is actually more difficult than the latter. And it doesn't add significant income or expense unless you're the non-mysterious mysterious new egocentric modligarch.

The only reason I have NWC (or in my case CLINK) is for SN. It has no value to me, only to other stackers, and my usage of it is purely to accommodate others. For me personally, it would be enough to just prepay a running balance in some CCs, never get any rewards, and have good discussions.

So take out the NWC requirement and suddenly, using the LN wallet with the best noob-to-sovereignty tradeoffs - Phoenix - isn't all that bad.
