That's very fair. You know, I can't say I loved all the woke revelations, but that's honestly not a huge deal for me personally. I know others take that more seriously.
I'm more worried about a soft creep capture by big players like the miners, Saylor type treasury companies, ETF players like Fink's blackrock, to name a few. Devs have to support their families too, and it's human nature to try to keep your patrons happy. I don't buy the evil cabal conspiracy theories. You hang out and socialize with these big money interests, and they provide the funding. Influence is inevitable. It's the way the world works. The power of little plebs obviously disappears over time. That's nobody's fault, and there's no obvious solution.
I was worried Saylor, ETFs and other suitcoiners would be persuaded by the veneer of more pure monetary maximalism touted by BIP110.
But yeah, it is hard to make a person contradict their source of income.
Of course I'm not aware of all that goes on for other Core devs, but I don't get the impression that anyone mixes that much with "suits". Chaincode, while having offices not too far from Wall Street and having founders from trad-fi, actually also had those 2 founders be Core devs themselves.
I heard some others met Jack Dorsey but he seems quite hands off, as do other sources of funding.
But cliques always form among humans and group think happens. Narratives can be spun.
I think the power of the Bitcoin enthusiast lies mostly in furthering the culture of self-custody, privacy, and advocating for the dignity which Bitcoin's fixed supply guarantees. And experimenting with ways to kickstart local bitcoin economies.
And the door for new devs to contribute to Core remains open.
This "political" reasoning for why the OP_RETURN policy was changed to the maximum is the impression I got from the conversation in the pull requests on GitHub, not some back room conspiracy.
I'm not going to repeat arguments around fee-incentives vs witness data or the infeasibility of fully preventing embedding data-embedding on a consensus level without totally handicapping script.
Being a relative newcomer I can't speak for others.
In hindsight I think the attempted damage control of Mike's PR failed.
Got a brief but positive impression of Gloria. Didn't agree on everything but she was pushing what appear to be great changes to help improve lightning.
Never met Luke in person, and was curious to meet him at some conference one day. But what I've seen in the last year has pushed me towards agreeing that he is a net-negative to Bitcoin.

So you basically stated your interpretation as a fact. Thanks for maybe telling the truth. Your 2 messages have significantly diminished in value, but that too is appreciated. I also really appreciate the fuzzy non-actionable sentiment data you provided.
PS: Mike prevented disaster, at least for me. I was ready to fork Core and add it back myself if I had to and I know for a fact that I wasn't the only one.

Disclaimer: I started as a dev focusing on Core a few years ago.
The Hodlonaut articles get some facts right, but the wokeism appears to have peaked around 2020.
Core v30's did a drastic change in default length OP_RETURN policy (not consensus) from ~80 to ~100 000 bytes. The reason the default value wasn't changed to 256 as a next step was to minimize the amount of repeated Luke & co shenanigans that would come from repeated increases.
I'm one of many who physically work alone. However, starting multiple physical offices to encourage collaboration and forward motion on hardening & improving Core is a good way for Bitcoiners to spend their sats on Bitcoin development. (Not the only way).
The trans thing appears to be incidental and pertains to 2 very long-term devs. They are not activists pushing an agenda on others.
Core is not perfect but don't let the shit-slinging get to you even if it appears to resonate.
It is healthy to be skeptical but please apply it to both sides.
