Yes. They have decided this is the real chain, the other one is "an attack of pedos on Bitcoin."

It's power consolidation. Probably the poorest execution of a hostile takeover I have seen in the history of Bitcoin.

That’s kinda messed up, and keeping on mining this chain seems risky to me. Isn’t there a risk of a double spend?

reply

risk of attack, same as BCH had. They need the hard fork to derisk from that. So they're gone now.

reply

They just mined another one. Quick question: If I make a transaction now, is there a chance it could end up in a block on this chain? Is there any way to make sure which chain I’m using? And when’s the hard fork?

Yes. And you can double-spend that chain against main chain, then sell the doublespend in an atomic swap. Recommend against it though.

The chain you use is the chain you validate. Or, if you're a bank appreciatoorrr, the chain your bank validates. Good luck with that one, haha.

when’s the hard fork?

Yesterday I saw September 1st mentioned. Not sure though. And it doesn't matter, because we don't play with shit.

reply

What a mess! Right now, I’m just trying not to fuck anything up, so it’s probably best to just sit tight until September. Thanks!

Do you think they're going to overtake the most-work chain?

reply

I don’t think so. Are you saying there’s only a problem if that happens?

reply

If you didn't fork with them, then there is no problem until that risk becomes real.

Just make sure your counterparty didn't fork with them either. Set a good lock height in their future but our past, and you'll be fine.
