You’re offered 300 Bitcoin by your great uncle Saylor

But there’s a catch

You have 30 days to spend all 300 BTC

Rules:

  • You can’t give it away
  • You can’t simply send it to someone else
  • You can’t invest it in assets
  • You can’t deliberately destroy anything you buy
  • You can donate up to 15 BTC to charity
  • You can gamble away up to 5%
  • You can’t tell anyone about the challenge
  • And after 30 days, you can’t own anything purchased with the 300 BTC

If you succeed, you get to keep the 300 BTC

If you fail, you get nothing

Or…

You can take 10 Bitcoin right now and walk away

What are you choosing? 👀

300 BTC in 30 days… or 10 BTC today?

What does this stuff you smoking cost? Maybe I'd buy 300BTC worth of that.

I needed to change my default zap to 99 sats because it was at 21 and each one has a 10 sat fee 🤣🤣🤣 the price of custody lol

I went from 69 to 125 for the same reason. It's proper incentive to really use it as a bootstrap platform. Unfortunately, I am mostly refilling it, so I'm using it for debootstrapping, I guess.

Using ShockWallet just feels right ✅️ I know it's cheaper to use the custodial ones but they're not right

it's still custodial if you don't run your own pub. For me, the only thing I need a connected wallet for is to be kind to other stackers on SN. Nothing else I use my sats for needs a connected wallet.

Ok halfway then 🙏 on the right track 👣

Wouldn’t one just liquidate it for fiat, transfer to a bank account, and wait 30 days?

Or is liquidating to fiat banned? Eg: You have to spend 300 BTC from merchants accepting bitcoin only.

There are jurisdictions that might allow you to buy real estate with Bitcoin, but it will take longer than 30 days.

Other thing I thinking is you could probably buy high end cars with Bitcoin too. Watches maybe?
One could consider these assets tho.

If we stick to services,
It is difficult to spend $18M in 30 days just on services. I really struggle
to think of anything that expensive that isn’t acquiring an asset.

I didn't properly consider the full extent of gaming the system

You make some good points, and found some flaws in the system

In a broader context it reminds me of the latest attacks on Bitcoin infrastructure, think cc, boltz etc

I've read a few reports where a 5-10 person team is maintaining a project and complain they don't have the resources to keep up with the constant onslaught from ai attacks

Without disregarding the skillz of open source devs, this latest wave of ai attacks is low hanging fruit, when I think of friends who have worked in cyber security for banks and telecommunications for over 10 years, they may be more prepared than we give them credit for

I would expect these attackers to look for middle ground as they grow in confidence, not a legacy bank or a 2 man dev team but something in the middle

Went on a tangent there lol 😆

Take a read of this recent blog post by Mathew Green (Cryptographer), it’s an interesting perspective on what AI might mean for cybersecurity. Maybe things get “too secure”, so authorities start asking for back doors instead of hacking.

The last bullet makes it really hard. I guess I would try to load up on as many services as possible.

and take my chances with the 300BTC

10 BTC today. Not worth the ambiguity of the terms.
