Part 1: Spam, like dirty language, has always existed

One of the interesting things with Bitcoin is that Nakamoto consensus cannot strictly keep out spam, because it addresses the Byzantine General's problem which sought a solution on how to create consensus about a ledger amongst a group of nodes and miners who do not know each other and some of them have malicious actions e.g spam.
Spam is one of the forms of malicious intent. Albeit weaker than the more powerful ones like a 51% attack or strategic neutralization of key actors (like Nakamoto. So glad he left the chat. Good man).

Since BIP-110 was released people were already engineering novel spamming tools and mechanisms.
And spam can have layers e.g. extra arbitrary data attached to txs, but also, we can think of bad ideas in the ecosystem as spam.
Spamming Bitcoin is something that has always existed, but that does not mean it is not a nuisance.
Also, i bet if one dug deep enough, a lot of things you shouldn't know about would be found embedded in transactions. Maybe state secrets, maybe...

Part 2: First we mind our own Bitcoin.

Fiat, like hell, is not easily conquered - Bit Paine

The problem of course is that Bitcoin - a long time preference protocol - exists in a monetary space where the time preference is being incentivized to shorten further and further.
Nothing stops this train.
The USD and its fiat currency buddies own the monetary space and Bitcoin only lives in it.

Being a Bitcoin maximalist is thus good - in Bitcoin circles. But one has no right telling a no-coiner using their beloved fiat currency that they are wrong because they haven't understood Bitcoin.
It's not our place, first and foremost, to police other people's actions who are not directly affecting us.

Imo being extremely anti-fiat is actually a form of spam to business interests because it is not realistic.
Being realistic while slowly steering the ship towards the right direction is better.
For example: Saylor retweeting stablecoin companies buying his products can be seen as him spamming the Bitcoin ecosystem but these companies are legally approved!
It does speak to a little hypocrisy on a maximalist's part if they fully welcome Tether but hate Vitalik with a passion.
I don't hate Vitalik with a passion, I don't support Ethereum, but if somebody I know is an Eth dev I wouldn't go out of my way to block them unless I personally hated their manners.
We all likely use Binance on here, they have altcoins.

Ironic as it may sound, Bitcoin is partly protected by all these altcoins. Saylor's gimmicks might get us labelled as scammers, but they will definitely winch up the coin and make it more important.
To succeed, Bitcoin should find a way to marry the USD, not to expel it. Fiat, like hell, is forever. It is the original law, and the legal system is very old.
Separating the state and money was already done by Bitcoin. Just not to levels we feel adequate, but it happened.

Basically we should realize that the Bitcoin community has two types of OGs; those willing to starve on the hill of money-only, and those willing to be a bit more flexible and phase-shift into crypto-gurus as may be fit.
Ironically too, I see trying to be too hardcore too fast another form of high-time preference.
It's been only a week and Luke is trying to change the PoW hashing algorithm? What will he do in the next 51 weeks?
So Luke and Saylor both have hight time preference in my opinion. Saylor for going so hardcore on the securitization path he now wants to issue dollars like a proper central bank, and Luke for going so anti-spam he's making all these moves without showing much engagements with the Core team on this issue, or signs at least of engineering better anti-spam tools to counter what is there.

Part 3: A business opportunity?

I do not yet run a node but it appears spam is a cause for many challenges for node runners including longer times synchronizing with the main chain, utxo bloat makes validating transactions also take longer, etc.
So there probably is a possible emerging market for running a fedimint served by a node that is having super AI filters of whatever we don't want to see on our end.

Whatever happened to the Ordirespector Spam filter? That should've been good enough.
BIP-110 was better, but the world is possibly not ready for it yet.
if there is illegal content onchain and nobody is getting arrested, that tells me it was never about what you put on chain but about whether you are paying what you're owed by the fiat overlords.
Bitcoiners operating big business might be the people who can least get away from taxes, or even transact with people that aren't allowed, because the eyes are squarely on them.

No, there is no business opportunity for filters. Possibly, though, there is a business opportunity for coding new Bitcoin tools using AI.
I mean, if the spammers can do it just to spite our beloved conception, why not us for good purposes?
But if this ever becomes something Bitcoiners want, then Artificially Intelligent Spam Filters will be the top chops in the game because not only do they catch more than algorithmic filters can, they can be trained to get better AND the filters can be personalized so if you like CAT NFTs but not weird shit you can enjoy that and if you like absolutely no images not even if they were your celebrity crush then you too will be served.

Hope you don't go looking for them in the stenographed bytes. That'll be weird.
