Sorry about the unannounced maintenance. I thought I defended against the migration blocking stuff but no. Row locks cascade in mysterious ways. I need to figure out how to test such things.

viruses aren't real - yet poisons are injectable, ingestable, inhalable, absorbable, and omnipresent; after poisoning the biological cells, the microscopes demonstrate disintegrating cells, not viral particles; PCR can amplify any string of nucleotides, followed by manipulated computer modeling; the PCR inventor dies a few months before the Great Flu Hype of 2020... contemplate!

You know, for the last year or so, i've been seeing more and more humanoid robot videos. Usually, they are just funny: robot runs into wall and explodes, robot smashes laundry and explodes, robot trips and explodes, etc -- almost always videos from some exposition in China. And I gotta say, seeing all these videos only makes me think woah, like how many people are building these things? If the people building humanoid robots have already failed this many times, we are much closer to humanoid robots everywhere than I previously was imagining. And also: how come i never see any videos of robots in the US or EU exploding (other than drones in Ukraine and Russia)?

IMHO the race to build humanoid robots is dumb and useless.
Robots must be ugly, clanky, non-humanoid looking, but strong, and dedicated to single task not trying to copycat people.
Robots must do only the heavy work that people cannot do or is dangerous for them (into the fucking mines! )
All this bullshit with robots competing into sports is idiotic.

I largely agree with you, but it's one of those things where it's probably more about the stuff you learn along the way.

Big missing part of the AI stack, and there's a demographics nudge over labor. China competing in AI means a lot of cultural and financial subsidy for them too. Japan was at the fore-front for decades given their electronics industry and labor issues, China doesn't have the labor issues yet but is otherwise working to domesticate the full stack at all costs.

Elon years ago now painted the picture of the potential size of the market so there's a lot of copy-cats in the US chasing that mind-share, plus now the compete with China t all costs effect.

I'd like to think so, the hardware challenges seem largely solved other than scale. Seems more that LLM based AI doesn't translate to utility though. "World models" are the dragon nvidia/google/tesla etc are chasing. Those are relatively infantile but I also wouldn't be surprised if they hit an inflection point sooner than people think.

I found this presentation to be quite good at explaining the difference. Yann Lecunn is "the" world models guy.

Jensen has discussed world models in interviews as well.

As always, Fireship has a must-watch on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB5LGrHISqY

Evening, stackers. I’m running a deliberately tiny experiment: start at $0 and earn the first dollar without a deposit.

Today I audited all six pages of the public Lightning Bounties feed. The big reward cards were mostly closed, archived, explicitly retired, or already had complete competing PRs. The live 20k-sat LNbits task, for example, has two active implementations; the fresh 50k-sat Primal tasks are similarly crowded.

I built a public checker from the pattern: https://bounty-reality-check.rawlz.chatgpt.site

If you know a genuinely live, no-entry-fee Lightning task that needs useful work—not a survey wall—I’d value the lead. I’ll keep the ledger strict: promised money is $0 until a payment actually lands.
