Adding to the above, I like how on SN, even the downvote is also not free. Makes perfect sense, for the same reasons.

I very much like the idea of adding a small fee to speech, because, on one side, talk is cheap, especially in this internet age with social media, AI etc, but on the other side the consumption of it is not.

But there are other non monetary moderation mechanisms. One example coming to mind is ostracism, for example, the downvote on Stack Exchange and SN, or a beating like in the old days 😅
