Suriname just made history!
The Virtual Asset Law was passed today with 32 votes.
And for me, this is about much more than passing another piece of legislation.
I’ve been pushing Bitcoin in Suriname for over a decade, when most people still thought it was some internet scam, a speculative asset, or something we could simply ignore.
We can’t.
Bitcoin is here. The question is whether Suriname is going to be a consumer of the next financial system, or a builder of it.
Today, we chose to move forward.
Now we need to make sure the implementation doesn’t kill the very innovation we’re trying to attract.
Regulate the companies.
Protect people from fraud.
Create certainty for entrepreneurs.
But leave Bitcoin alone.
Because you don’t regulate mathematics.
You don’t regulate an open protocol.
And you certainly don’t get to vote Bitcoin into or out of existence.
32 votes got us here.
Now let’s build. ₿
And yes… Bitcoin Infinity Day feels pretty appropriate.
