I'm on board with this. The moral condition of a people probably matters more for their prosperity and societal wellbeing than the political or economic system.
That being said, I think systems itself can affect morals. For example, a system that rewards corruption will train people to become more corrupt. So moral condition is not a totally exogenous phenomenon.
It seems to be the more I unplug from these types of discussions against or defending capitalism that the core issue with capitalism is not really freedom in and of itself. Its the moral condition of the society as a whole. That in addition to the idea that a system can fix this problem. For sure socialism is a self-defeater and free-markets maximize efficiency. Neither are the answer for moral corruption.
