Most of the people around me are consumed by their work. Buying bigger houses, longer vacations, bigger car, etc. Needing to work more. Then buying more... they turned into perpetual consumers. They have built their own prison, without bars. They cant stop working, or make less hours, because then their whole identity falls apart. Usually around the age of 40 they sort of burn out, feel disconnectrd from work, but can not stop or change, because of the debt amassed. It is so sad to see it happen far in advance...
You could argue that we are already without identity, occupied minds with doomscrolling and useless news from around the world...
If you ask me, "they" already have enslaved most of us... changes towards total control will speed up, as we no longer can do anything about it anymore.
