Interesting:

  • UBI is -33
  • UBI+work requirement is -16
  • negative income tax is -17
  • citizens dividend is +4
  • wage insurance +15
  • federal job guarantee +16
  • AI citizen dividend +19
  • data dividend +48

these are all the fcking same. Freebie helicopter money polls between -33 and +48 depending on how you word it

these are all the fcking same

Word. But then, was there an option "do nothing and leave me be"?

?

It's a poll. You can just not answer a poll. Or approve/disapprove on the questions consistently.

Have you understood what "these are the all same" means? It does not seem so to me.

reply

Nah, let me explain because that is exactly what I mean! Apologies for a short, unclear reply. I agree with your comment.

In the poll, the goal was to rank how much you favor this policy or that policy, but when I read through the graph, I saw no option "don't make any new law". So the outcome is that all these options are just flavors of the same thing: more laws. There is no policy in there that says "don't make social laws to deal with AI", so the outcome per definition biases towards "government do something".

Disapprove on these policies is basically "don't make any new law", isn't it? Which of these questions imply a new policy for the "disapprove" option?

reply

That's not the same thing, I think. If you reject every proposal then you do nothing now, that is an outcome, but that is not a policy because it is implicit. If the policy is to do nothing, then it is explicit. It has a rationale and argumentation. It means that anyone even proposing one of these policies would be breaking with the former policy and, in a well organized rational policymaking process, would need to explain not only the merits of their new policy, but also why the old policy is invalid or needs to be broken up with.

56,000 Americans agreed on something. AI may already be the least surprising part of this article.
