@DarthCoin has decided to leave SN because of the introduction of the Spark wallet.
I know this may be a non event for some, and a relief for others. Darth was a polarizing figure. He could be abrasive, stubborn, and at times downright nasty.
He also provided a perspective that seems less visible here, and lacking in the entire bitcoin community.
He was a "toxic" maxi. You always knew where he stood. No matter how heated the discussion might get, I for one always knew his heart was in the right place.
I can't second guess his decision, but I hope this isn't the last we hear from him. Bitcoin needs voices like his now more than ever.
SN will be worse for his absence.

It's a BBS not a popularity contest, alienating Super and now Darth isn't a positive trend
Especially since it's not clear what, if anything, was gained in either case.
I think gaining a wallet that SN supports within its own interface, not needing external connections, but can still be converted to real sats, is a big gain
I don’t personally dislike either addition but it remains to be seen if they attract or retain more/better stackers than they repel.
Yea, the BBS and connectors is the product, sybil fees are the service.
Adding a wallet to a site that still requires an external wallet to even get into is neither a connector nor a solution to users without a wallet already.
CC's didn't stop the service from being custodial either if legal paranoia was the justification, it's still inter-mediating payments and you still trust its invoice generation.
It probably would have been easier to plop CLINK or NWC into the Spark SDK for connector support rather than adding the Spark SDK to SN.

I have had my agreements and battles with Darth he definitely gives a perspective to make you think. Sometimes it came off harsh but he was always willing to help. I think of him like a father who tries to instill good habits and calls you out when you go astray. But always there to answer questions especially as it came to help with Zeus wallet.
At some point or another we will all be gone from SN. Either by choice or nature. All of us have a SN clock that will end someday.

I recently read his guide to Lightning wallets and he explicitly says there's nothing wrong with custodial wallets for small amounts especially for noobs. What was his issue with Spark?

I'll be happy to see him come back. I don't agree with many of his non-bitcoin opinions, but he's definitely adding spice to the discussions. And besides the talk, he's always been one for action when helping others.

Like all things @DarthCoin is impermanent including his content, which lives on for now. I don't understand the Spark thing and mostly treat sats and CCs as non-monetary points. I hope SN will transition away from the monetary connection while finding a way to make territories and the site overall work.

this post is how I, too, found out that he once again quit, which is his right. if you look at top posts this week, i think you'll catch the drift? but personally i couldn't be bothered to wade into the comments and sort out actual information from insult, who has the time for that
I think DarthCoin is simply acting according to his principles, and honestly, that is something we don't see very often, many people talk about sovereignty until it becomes inconvenient, he actually lives by it.
I had been holding Bitcoin for years before I understood the real power of Lightning. He was one of the people who helped me see Bitcoin not only as something you save, but as something you can actually use. He helped me move from "I own Bitcoin" to "I can build with Bitcoin". When I was trying to bring Bitcoin into my shop, he didn't just explain things, he encouraged me, shared my story, and helped the SN community support the idea of putting Bitcoin stickers everywhere and making sats more normal in everyday life. So I understand why this kind of thing bothers him.
Imagine someone opening a shop on your home selling poison oil, you don't know them personally, but they put a sign outside saying "extra virgin olive oil"... the problem is not only the product, the words themselves created an expectation. In Bitcoin, words matter. Self-custody matters. Non-custodial matters. These are not just marketing terms, they are the reason many of us are here, people can disagree on the technical details and on the best way forward, but I will always respect someone who is willing to act according to his beliefs. Hopefully we'll see DarthCoin back here sooner rather than later, maybe he just needed some time away to breathe some fresh air... and enjoy a little more self-custodied oxygen. Thank you legend ⚡
