Price, obvs, which any rational person should view as heightened probability of failure/collapse/bitcoin not actually working.
But honestly, it's something I try not to talk about online and that's completely separate from Bitcoin (#1553485). Best friend died this year, and nothing — except mountain air, fresh snow, skiing, and blueberry picking — has been particularly captivating since, bitcoin included. #1545954
I think the hardest part for me is that I first learned about Bitcoin around 2016/17 and didn't understand it until last year... wasting my time on NFTs, shitcoins, and stupid Telegram bots...!!!
Now I'm focused on trying to buy/accumulate at least 1000 sats daily, and watching it grow day by day is a comfort... even so, the lost time is painful.
I still get a sinking feeling when I read or hear from a person or institution that I once respected and find them casually dismissing Bitcoin with the same shallow caricatures: digital tulips, Ponzi scheme, no intrinsic value, etc. Over time it forces me to quietly lower the weight I give their judgment.
People with who I transacted on Robosats had to change their account or use a proxy to avoid having their account frozen. And then after a while coming back and see that few people remain offering the payment method I was using. And yet scammers are probably 0.01% of the total of transactions. In some way I prefer physical robberies.
I didn't really overcome it but I would tend to think that some kind of reputation system matters. Also I need to think about alternatives.
Wise. There are still some offers, but not at all like in the past. Why do you say Peach is dead? I only saw lnp2pbot being stopped and replaced by Mostro. Please try Robosats, it's a good platform. I can't count the trades I did on it. Just a small fraction of scammers apparently. Since I am not a Bitcoin seller, only buyer, I never had issues. There was this discussion about a reputation system but I don't remember the website someone gave me for a reputation system to rate people on Nostr. Personally I use a mix of all (Robosats, Peach, Bisq, Lnp2pbot)
The scariest moment happened when my Umbrel OS crashed during an update, right as I had just opened a Lightning channel worth 1 million satoshis. This triggered a forced channel closure. For a moment, I thought I'd lost everything. Fortunately, thanks to my backup, I was able to roll back the system and recover my BTC on-chain. Quite a scare!
Well as for many others, I had to go through several losses before understanding the simple, core values. I played too much with shitcoins and garbages like Celsius, and I even was victim of scammers... now I realize that the plan is dead simple, dead stupid: hold, spend where safe, avoid "free lunches" like hell.
I regret having to learn the lessons the hard way, but you know, those are the lessons you never forget
my darkest experience related to Bitcoin was seeing polluted consciousness in those who claim to be bitcoiners, yet are not proper people!
a proper man knows the difference between right & wrong, as well as the correct conditions for wen to use/teach Bitcoin and the standards of use; he also knows why Bitcoin, and embodies principles of natural law & freedom;
handing private keys to a stupid man doesn't make him enlightened; i got over that fact, and now i seek proper men instead of "Bitcoin Communities" (most of those are cults, not freedom hubs); wen there aren't any proper men to meet, i get to work on the land & myself;
by convention, the word mankind includes both women and men, since in the grand scheme of things, one gender polarity is inseparable from the other, and all shud cooperate & act properly; next stupid question please?
I guess the closest thing to a "darkest hour" is when I tried initial block download in 2025 and realized my old Rpi4 just wasn't cutting it anymore: #978269
I do worry about the scalability of node decentralization, given the lack of economic incentives to run a node, and the increasing resource demands of doing so.
My darkest hour was during a bear market when I needed liquidity but the only options were selling my BTC or handing it over to a centralized platform as collateral. Watching platforms collapse while holding user funds made me realize self-custody isn't optional, it's the whole point of Bitcoin.
I had some sats stuck in Lightning channels. Had to contact my peers and get them to remote close them.

Sorry to hear that. We all get reminders that there is more to life than Bitcoin.
Are your hands turning purple from all that picking?
yes, totally purple
When one of the smartest people I know, shared his view that Bitcoin can't win because then people would end up with negative equity on their homes.
It seems that many people will put up with a broken system because they a lot of skin in a broken game.
Incentives > ideals.
that is a FUCKING astute and depressingly accurate observation
Yes, winners of the fiat game WILL NOT take note and learn about the core problem.
he isn't very smart then - his reference point is home equity, great - let him rot & die with his H0M3 Equ!Ty;

I wrote my password down wrong and could not figure it out for two weeks. I was prepared to lose everything.
The price swings are nothing. Bitcoin dies. It will rise. If you lose your password or keys thann it rises without you.
When I die, so does my Bitcoin.
I hate to admit it but being scammed when I thought I was purchasing a miner. That one hurt a lot but I’ve moved on and learned from my mistake.

All that matters is doing better every day.

Yes, it's sad. Just makes the revolution feel achingly slow.
Buckle up. We've got another 10 years minimum of that shit.

Which payment system was that?
I was going to learn how to use Robosats because Peach is likely dead.

Phew!
Are you really even a Bitcoiner if you haven't experienced that heart in mouth moment?

Absolutely!
My three rules: No shitcoins. No trading/leverage. Self-custody only.
Stay dumb and win.

I used to ask this user who made them the judge of all. I stopped
Mmmm.... I don't think I have a darkest hour?
