On this day in history, 16 years ago, a user complained while mining bitcoin at home with their desktop computer, “I just can’t wait one month to see 50 bitcoins”

That complaint is the reason mining pools exist. A few months later the first one went live and turned a 50 BTC lump every few weeks into small steady payouts. None of the math changed, only who absorbs the variance. Sixteen years on, that is still the entire product.

Sixteen years ago we were happy and didn't know it; with those BTC we'd have a fortune now, we'd just be holding them... unfortunately, I got to BTC too late.

No matter what stage of life we’re at, there will always be someone who complains.

I remember that about 16 years ago, and it makes me want to cry
