Hello, earthlings.

I’m beyond angry. I’m genuinely infuriated after finishing Lord of Chaos.

It took me longer than usual to get through it, not only because I’ve been putting together a bunch of blog entries (like this one or this one) and therefore reading quite a lot already, but because, well, life. Pretending to be human and all that takes a lot out of me.

But this? This book was beyond me.

I’m so pissed.

I wanted to box everyone’s ears about 50,000 times. So many characters were stubborn at the same time that it stopped being compelling and became genuinely annoying. Lord of Chaos? Gee whiz. More like Lord of Stubbornness. Or something. I don’t even have the energy to come up with anything witty because I was disappointed in almost everyone.

Jesus Christ, their thoughts, at times, were so boring. 🥹

Not only were most of them thinking stupidly, they were acting stupidly too. Why? Supposedly, the stakes were higher than ever, but I could barely care about anyone’s fate because of the aforementioned stubbornness.

I get it: they’re young, they’re figuring themselves out, emotions are complicated, etc. But would it really kill them to be just a little clearer about what they intend to do? There are so many characters acting the same way, so many threads, and by the end I just felt exhausted rather than invested.

After the previous book, I felt a bit robbed. This one was just so… sigh.

Anyway, I’ll see what happens in the next one. And no, I’m not invested in their love lives at all, especially if this is how they’re going to be handled. For the love of God, I came for the fantasy, the action, the magic, the plotting, the blood—not a never-ending will-they-won’t-they situation.

Thank you, but no.

Another sigh.

Lol! Sorry for your pain.
What made you persevere until the end? I think I would have given up on a book that repulses me

thank you 🪦hahaha I’m already too invested in the characters that I guess even though I just complained about them I’m reading the next one on the series 🫣 hopefully it’ll get better ❤️‍🩹

It's funny, but a negative review kind of makes me want to read Wheel of Time more than all the positive reviews I've seen. Kind of like: can it really be that bad?

You make it sound so awful that wondering if it might be fun to gawk at. Sadly, I'm stuck on the cyberpunk books for the foreseeable future.

haha 🤣 let me know what you think about it if you read it. Are those the cyberpunk 2077 comics? 👀

Remember that Two Rivers folk are renowned for being stubborn pains in the ass. It's one of my least favorite conflict driving devices but it's also in character for most of them.

The love lives were mostly the least interesting storylines to me, as well. They just aren't very compelling relationships for the most part (Perrin and Faile being the huge exception).

Jordan here really pushed it this time 🫠 I was barely perplexed when certain someone was caught. I was team “you know what, suck it up!” and I could say the same thing for the rest hahahaha anyway glad to know I’m not the only one. I’ve mostly read good reviews and it made me feel if they read the same book I just read.
