I came across a surprising reminiscence from Michael Schnittker, he's a former CIA agent and posts regularly on social media platforms.
In one of his posts he mentioned:

"When I was a brand new CIA employee in early 1984, a “CT” (Career Trainee), I worked a series of 3 month assignments in a variety of offices in the Directorate of Operations to make me familiar with support of the field by Headquarters personnel. I did all the tasks any new person is assigned including going to a small office and acquiring cryptonyms and such for operations. They had a list, you chose from the list. None of the names meant anything, they were just identifiers made up of real words like the band IRON BUTTERFLY or LED ZEPPELIN.

One day I was tasked to acquire a pseudonym for a newly recruited source. I went to the office, picked one and gave it to the requesting officer. He was pissed. I had picked “BABYEYES”. He didn’t like it. I told him it was a name on the list, I had few choices and that was the best of the lot.

In the movies and such, you hear a lot of grandiose CIA project names. CIA doesn’t really work like that. Understated is the CIA style. In my 30 years of operations, there were very few “projects” and when the projects had a name the name wasn’t used.

CIA is a PEOPLE business, we collect foreign intelligence from PEOPLE so the cryptonyms of people, the reporting assets, are what we use 99% of the time."

But even the CIA falls short of the notorious experiments the soviets carried out and were leaked after, one of them notably being the Transfermium wars. But I'm not talking about that here. I will show you the most secretive and partially successful Soviet project which even now, is highly unheard of.

I guess that the USSR had a lot of secret stories, projects and events, however, like any other country. But the USSR had a peculiarity.

All its secrets related to a subversive and terrorist actions, or to some researches and experiments for such actions.

The USSR leaderships was obsessed about aggression and subversive activity against the "capitalist camp". At first they tried to implement the idea of the world revolution. When they failed, they transformed the idea, but still tried to destruct the opponents.
All this activity was controlled by the communist party and was performed by special organs, like NKVD/KGB and many others. A lot of industrial and scientific resources of that country were subjugated to that goal.

But I think that majority of the information on that events will never become known. Russia constantly prolongs the classification of all the documents of NKVD/KGB. Recently the term was prolonged until 2042.

Besides there are no structure in modern Russia that would be interested in revealing of that secrets. There was no independent journalism in the USSR. And still there is none in modern Russia. Nobody needs to reveal that stories. Not because of lack of curiosity but because it is dangerous. If sometimes somebody tried to clarify any of such questions, it resulted in something like an accident or anything else. Secret services keep their secrets.

Many documents about such experiments began to appear in the second half of 1980s at the beginning of 1990s. Obviously, this process did not suit someone. Therefore, soon a host of other information began to appear, explaining strange cases by the intervention of aliens, parallel worlds or otherworldly forces. This was done to undermine the credibility of documents that had already appeared. However, something became known and has been documented, like, for example, Soviet secret laboratories that developed poisons and tested them in humans.

But I want to tell about something else. About a biorobot. The project to create a Soviet biorobot was launched in 1958. They say that the Soviet leadership decided to start the experiment, being encouraged by the achievments of the scientist Vladimir Demikhov.

In 1954, Demikhov conducted a unique operation to transplant a dog’s head onto the body of another dog. Such a dog lived for two months. He later created in his laboratory more than twenty two-headed dogs. And it was precisely these experiments of Demikhov that formed the basis of subsequent research on organ transplants for animals and humans, on the creation of artificial organs, which had not only medical and biological, but also military significance.Many Western scientists subsequently admitted that they had learned a lot from Demikhov and called the Soviet biologist as their teacher. Among those world-famous scientists who revered Vladimir Petrovich Demikhov was a South African surgeon Christian Barnard. It was he who first transplanted the human heart. Barnard twice visited the laboratory of Demikhov and did not tire of admiring the grandiose experiments of the Soviet biologist.

The new biorobot project was also planned to be implemented, starting with experiments on animals. It was for this reason that the project was named "Collie" - in honor of the famous Scottish shepherd dogs.

It should be noted that all information about this project is fragmented. There are only a few articles in the Russian press on the Collie project. There were no serious monographs or scientific articles in which this project was considered.

These developments were carried out in various research institutes, and they were controlled by the USSR Ministry of Defense, the State Security Committee under the USSR Council of Ministers and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. To participate in the experiments they involved specialists of various profiles. In 1963, Professor V.R. Lebedev was invited to a special meeting in which representatives of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the KGB of the USSR participated. At this meeting, the scientist came up with a very interesting innovative idea - to create a "machine for saving lives". The device had to be developed and created in the same secret laboratory, where previously experiments on animals were carried out. As objects for experiments, collie dogs were chosen, because they were light in combination with a developed brain.

Lebedev’s device

The experiment made it possible to preserve the neural connection of the spine, spinal cord, and head by connecting a special pump circulating blood to the machine for saving life. After a short time, a special suit “Storm” was developed. In fact, it was a mechanical robot controlled by a radio remote control. Both the operator and the dog itself, connected via a life saving machine, could control it. At the same time, the dog was controlled by a specially trained specialist who gave the dog voice commands through the loudspeaker installed in the Storm suit. The first tests of the new costume were conducted at the Alabino training ground.

After successful tests at a special factory, special control modules for the suit were made, including power levers made of titanium. The robot body itself was made of armored alloy steel. Soon after testing the Storm suit, prototypes of biorobots began to be delivered to the Soviet Army, or rather, to special military institutes. In December 1968, the first tests of biorobots using weapons and military equipment were carried out. The operator who controlled the dog could give a command to go down into a deep body of water, go to the zone of destruction of enemy shells, etc.

The suit was completely insulated and protected from any external influences. In turn, the dog’s biological reflexes were suppressed through a life-saving machine, which mixed special substances into the animal’s blood through a blood circulation pump.

However, experiments in the development of the Soviet biorobot were soon abandoned. The fate of the Storm costume is currently unknown.
