Art is about conveying a unique point of view. Tomomi Kumishige certainly had the right idea when she created her intriguing blend of calligraphy. Her calligraphy depicts a particular kanji character — and if you tilt your head a certain way, you can see how the strokes form the English letters simultaneously. That’s why she branded her art as eekanji ( English + Japanese kanji).

I think it’s an amazing feat because there was a popular meme trending several years back. About how the Japanese mind cannot shape English alphabet letters to visually mimic Japanese Katakana characters. So, Ms Tomomi must have worked hard at adapting her mind so as to be able to represent a Japanese kanji and its English equivalent with her calligraphy. Or maybe that’s her God-given gift to the world.
