Somewhat frequently, I come across something cool that I think it would be neat to talk about. More often than not, I find that a stacker has already posted about it -- but often the post is simply a link with no context or discussion and the post has no comments.
I'd like to write a little bit about what the cool thing is and why I think it's cool.
What should I do:

I must say the feeling on link posting has changed so much in the past few years. I think I made three or four begging posts to just allow a line or two of commentary on link posts. There was a lot of push back. Stackers preferred straight links with no editorializing. I'm glad that has changed.

I don't think anyone should be forced to post context, but having the option is harmless

Was gonna say the same. Links without context are drastically less valuable than a link with context and some original thoughts.
What sort of link would result in you tipping for the link itself?
It's rare, but if I actually check out the link and find it to be useful, I will tip.
But I will tip you again for the same link post with context if you provide interesting thoughts.

I was called out earlier for "duping" --although I didn't notice because I shared a YT link and @siggy47 had shared a diff webpage, to the transcript.
Rewards pool today probably helped my post garner a few more sats than his. Maybe it was the 'soul' I gave the post, I'd like to think so. Probably just arsemilk-chasers.
It's fine to mention other posts on the subject, I think, especially if there is discussion there too. Dupes happen organically too.

I think it depends. Something like what you did here should always be welcome. This was a brilliant DFW talk. We all benefit if we get reminded of it periodically. I think the real issue is breaking news with a limited shelf life. There, dupes are unnecessary.

Link only posts suck. If you have something interesting to say then make a new post but maybe forward a few sats to the original poster.
A really good link aggregator is something that SN could do well. It'd be great if every morning when I open SN, I saw a bunch of links to new projects that I'm interested in. I don't think I'd even mind that much if there wasn't much context.
But I think we may have a problem with a lot of link-only posts getting no interaction and then stackers who are interested in putting in more effort not posting on the topic because they see the red dupe text.
Link aggregation was solved right before the dot com bubble popped. I'm sure that SN can be transformed to solve that too, but would that be a good use of the massive moat SN has: awesome bitcoiners coming together here to produce and consume great content?
Make a post about it without forwarding sats. Or forward a small amount like 5%
Forward some sats to OP - it is always nice to receive sats unexpectedly!
I think you should keep some sats because it helps foster a culture in which we understand that POW garner sats

Unapologetically make your own post and keep the sats, if someone else made a lame one that's getting no attention.
I'd like to encourage posting of links. I think people will generally have a better time if they get sats because they post, and so trying to "outpost" a low effort post seems like it might not encourage people.
If it came to your attention through the original link post, then you probably should acknowledge and forward some sats.
Otherwise, I think you're just doing something fundamentally different with the content.

I'm generally not a fan of posts with links only, so low effort, at least you can say something about why you find it interesting or important? And I won't even click on it if it's from Stackers that I have 0 memory, and worst if someone already posted it. 😂
my default would be to post a comment on a link only post with my thoughts about the topic, but I'm worried there are many stackers who have muted some of the link-only posters, or who just generally skip their posts, and so posting thoughts in a comment would be pointless.
There's one user who does this constantly: @hasherstacker
He reposts announcement links from successful projects, usually after someone else already made a post with a detailed description.
@hasherstacker is very quick on the draw. Occasionally they post stuff that I haven't seen yet, which is impressive.
Link only posts do suck but you gotta give respect to the OPs intention of passing some important piece of information - such as a breaking news, a tweet or anything that the title itself clarifies the whole and asking for some reflection from stackers upon the link.
