A great 15 minute podcast about cod.

My takeaways:

  • Due to its low oil content it’s easy to preserve thus making it the ideal food for long voyages at sea.
  • Theyq eat and live near the bottom of the sea. The Industrial Revolution almost destroyed the natural resource.
  • The British tried to squash the economy of the American colonies by banning and taxing the cod economy. This put a lot of American fishers out of business which caused them to take arms. Crazy how economics like this caused America to gain independence!
  • Britain and Iceland had the cod wars. A bloodless war that occurred to stop British fishermen from over fishing the waters near Iceland. Iceland got them to stop by threatening to pull out of NATO

One little fish changing the course of human history. Why I always say Mother Nature is always undefeated!

I actually read that book, though I loathe cod.

It’s more of a mood thing for me. Don’t crave it often

I'm not a fan. As a kid at my Italian grandparents' house we all dreaded the ubiquitous baccala.
