In late October I'll be heading to Austin for 5 days for a wedding and I have a quickly growing bucket list. Austin has been on my list of places of interest for a long time to play poker in. I'll be playing at the lodge every day that I'm there. I'm hoping some people who are more familiar with the huge city can help me pick a an optimal geographical location.

My bucket list:
-Play poker at the lodge often which is up north

-spend bitcoin in many places. Would love to never buy a meal with fiat.

-ride in an autonomous car.
Can this be done to/from the airport? what is the range of this service?

-roll around with the boys at Tenth Planet Jiujitsu hopefully using bitcoin for a day pass.

-BBQ BBQ BBQ

Would love some suggestions too for cool things to do as well.

Try Medici (multiple locations) to pay in bitcoin for coffee/pastries. Try Saturn Bar (heart of downtown, very near capital) to pay in bitcoin for cocktails and hotdogs and wings (really good). There are other spots where it's technically possible, but these two I would place high above the others.

You could check out the hub of btc++ headquarters in east Austin which is also a fun neighborhood to be out and about, good tacos all over the place

everyone's gonna tell you Franklin this, Terry that, but I'll tell you where the real ones go for classic, good-eats BBQ and live music: The Green Mesquite. It's worth a trip.

You should swing by Pleblab and visit the SN headquarters. Let me know when you are coming and I'll be there to say hi!

Ok that would be fantastic. I'd love some in-person purchased murch too! Would you allow me to buy you a coffee? :)

take some SNZ zines with you, they'll be at the lab

reply

Heck yes! There are plenty of places we can go!

If you have enough people, pre-order the BBQ from Franklin or La BBQ (their lines haven't been that long lately). Otherwise, go to Mickelwaithe (pastrami brisket is amazing) and you probably won't have to stand in line at all. (Interstellar and Leroy and Lewis are the new ones with long lines now).

Robotaxi and Waymo are the ones to try. Robotaxi has its own app and Waymo is available via Uber, but you have to make it available in settings.

Not too sure about the poker scene, but I know Doug Polk who owns one of those places is a Bitcoiner (and shitcoiner) and showed up at a BitDevs one time. You might be able to get to play with BTC there if you talk to someone.

reply

oh wow! Yes he owns the lodge where I will exclusively play. I am a member of his training site and I'm a fan on the co-owners andrew neeme and brad owen. I knew he shitcoined around a bit and even had a youtube channel about it a while ago but very cool to hear he showed up to a bitdevs! I'll remember those BBQ spots! Perhaps I can use one of them to treat the SN team to lunch :)

There's a few threads in related posts from other Austin visitors that might have good recs.

Terry Black's is amazing for BBQ. I think the Tesla Robotaxis go there, depending on where you're starting.

Ok, it's on the list! Thank you
