I enjoy slow conversation, you get to know someone through communication.

Not checking someone's profile and then, after 5 mins forming an idea of what they are like; I read that in some countries, when you are at a party, or someone is meeting someone new, the person might ask for your IG, and then check to see how many followers you have and then decide whether they follow you, etc.

This is really dehumanizing.

not surprised at all

my friend who lives in DC tells me the culture there is like that, not necessarily with instagram, but with political position

reply

insane, i rather be a nobody and see how ppl treat me.

reply

but I think it helps me understand people who get caught up in it.

if you get ignored enough times because you aren't influential enough, it teaches you that to be socially accepted you must become influential.

so sad

reply

It's really sad, but I don't want to be around those fair-weather "friends", who are only there because you got certain status or influence. You can be sure they would be the first to kick you or disappear if you're in trouble.

reply

that's what I read, not surprised too.
