Lamentations 3:22–23 KJV speaks very deeply about the mercy and faithfulness of God:
«“It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, Because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: Great is thy faithfulness.”»
- “We are not consumed” — We have not been destroyed
Verse 22 acknowledges that people may experience sin, suffering, failure, and the consequences of their wrong choices. Yet the fact that we are still here and still have the opportunity to return to God is because of His mercy.
Not because we are always worthy, but because He is still merciful.
- “His compassions fail not” — His compassion never runs out
People can change. Today they may love; tomorrow they may disappoint. Today they may be strong; tomorrow they may be weak.
But God’s compassion does not depend on the inconsistency of human beings.
This is a very important point: your failure does not cause God’s faithfulness to fail.
- “They are new every morning” — Every morning is a new opportunity
This may be the most beautiful part of the passage.
Every morning when you wake up, you are not simply given another day. You are also reminded that:
God has not given up on you.
You may have failed yesterday. You may have made the wrong decision. You may have wasted time or money. But today is still a day to repent, make things right, do what is right, and continue walking with God.
This does not mean that the consequences of every action will immediately disappear. It means that God’s mercy still opens a way forward.
- “Great is thy faithfulness” — His faithfulness is great
Jeremiah said these words in the middle of an extremely painful situation, not when everything was going well.
So the message is not:
«“Everything is going well, therefore God is faithful.”»
Rather:
«“Even when everything is going terribly, God is still faithful.”»
That is why Lamentations 3:22–23 can be such a powerful reminder for anyone going through difficult times.
In summary:
«Yesterday may have been a failure. But God’s mercy has not run out. Today, He has still given you a new morning. And His faithfulness has not changed.»
This is also very close to the spirit of Romans 8:38–39: nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus.
