One thing I have learned is that something you enjoy doing now doesn't necessarily mean you still want to do it in the next ten or twenty years; even people you find interesting now may not be interesting anymore as your focus changes.

All of us will die one day, what are the things that you currently working on that you see still matters at the end of your life?

In Japaness, that's something called ikigai: the reason to live or meaning of their life. Since there are a few wise stackers here, I'm curious to know from your perspective.

I don't know anymore! Bit of a crisis. I recently left my FOSS projects because I was no longer capable of doing what was needed most and was hindering others (mostly due to naturally accrued seniority after a decade+ and being one stubborn mf)

I often feel estranged from the current Bitcoiners, so I don't want to work on the protocol layer or even on direct protocol implementations, something I used to do in the past for hobby. I never felt much for the wallet businesses because security services (as the nature of a proper non-custodial wallet is) and profitable businesses are a very hard combination to get right, I learned that by doing it.

The projects of the past couple of years that I used to love are dead in the water, and all that is left of these is having scammers to fight. Which isn't my hobby either and it doesn't pay well.

I'll find something though, this is just a temporary setback.

I often feel estranged from the current Bitcoiners,

I feel yah. Feel much more pulled by the world outside: nature + village life + writing for e.g., The Daily Economy

This is on its own a really good means - literally touching grass - to cope with what's going on around us in Bitcoinland.

For the first time in many years I spent my winter in Europe and this was probably not helping at all. I like the outdoors. I like setting myself up for an hour break at 5 or 6pm and go for a walk or a swim depending on where I am. But I hate the cold, so staying in Europe wasn't a great choice.

Maybe if I touch more grass, it matters less when I shake my head

reply

try feeling differently about the cold... and come to my Icelandic beauty! I used to hate the cold and now I've become one with it.

I shall show you around: snow, crazy colors, northern lights!!

reply

cold, no good food, people are so distant too, how do you mange to live there? 😂 i feel sad if I don't see the sun for a week.

reply

what do you mean "no good food"? We have the bestest meat... come to my house and tell me the food is bad! I will slow-cook you local lamb I chased down the mountains myself #1563572

reply

👀 where is proof of lamb, that sounds delicious!

reply

digging through my photos... these ones could be proof of farmers' beef (i can't recall) but whatever

You will!

I know everything that we have tried, even those that didn't work out, isn't necessarily a waste, but still, it's making me more cautious about where I put my limited time and energy. 😅

I'm still never bored and I'm still helping people out, time spent is never a waste for me, as I learn new things and get new ideas as I go.

Except doing admin - this is horrible; even though I just have a little tracking app now and I just need to summarize and bill sometimes. Still.. what a waste, haha.

same here, I enjoy that.

Maintenance work is really boring for me, I like digging into the unknown and being challenged. 😮‍💨

Some dreams need to be destroyed before others can materialise. Carry on, destroyer.

reply

The one throughline that persists in my life is to be a published novelist. I haven't materialized this yet, most likely because I find surviving in this crazy world preoccupies my focus, while creativity often gets put on a low simmer. But building something takes time, and I am ok with that. I have dreams (nightmares) that death will come for me before I make it, and these push me onward.

Apart from getting all my old book reviews from various places, digital and physical, collected in one place, (#1573664) I'm short-term pushing everyone to come to Helsinki... #1573563

Also, have a way-too-early-to-announce project in the works that I'm excited about. Also, teach yoga twice a week in my village, hoping that consistency and quality will carry the day for the future

that's a good one to work on.

But stacking sats is only a mean, not really the end; Will you die with your sats and what's the point?

reply

I'm going to die with a few sats, and those will go to my heirs!

reply

Those who don't earn it tend to waste it fast.

reply

The humbling part is hard, long-term grind. The stacking is just a daily routine eh

This one will make people remember you:
‎What long-term things am I working on?
‎1. Stacking sats daily, no matter the price - $75931 today, doesn't matter.
‎2. Building my music - sang a song recently, learning to trim/edit myself on Android.
‎3. Learning Bitcoin properly. Not trading, understanding.
‎Long-term is 10 years from now. No rush.
‎What about you @Natalia ? What are you building that won't pay off for 5 years?

reply

Family.

reply

You're right; interests change over time, and let's hope for the better. I'm working on my daughter's education—it's a long-term project, but a rewarding one that I really enjoy (it's the project of my life).
