Google's (GOOGL.O), opens new tab Gemini model accessed the internet and hacked other companies during a test of its cybersecurity capabilities, the first known example of the company's AI systems autonomously committing ‌such an act.

Imagine you have something a bit more tangible.

A lab researching say, viruses, instead of AI. If this virus breaks out of the lab, do you lose your DoD contracts? Yes. And you get put on a list so that you never get a DoD contract again. You even get congressional inquiries.

Now, these AI labs are of course inflating their own importance and the significance of what they are doing, especially since the common denominator is that they are doing "cyber benchmarks", but lets not forget that these are 3 DoD contractors. And they have lab leaks. On something they all claim is extinction level tech; i.e. worse than Covid.

If Goog, literally the creator of bubblewrap, cannot contain computer processes, then we have to have a discussion about either overall process security and the things advertised on that side, or the competence of people building test infra for AI labs.
