A lot of what was said in his speech is exactly what I would have expected. The UN Assembly even broke into applause when it came to efforts the President highlighted that the First Lady has made to reunite Ukrainian families. In the speech, Trump pointed out that he was not on the ballot this year, and so the results will not affect what he does. Part of this statement is right: he isn't on the ballot, but depending on how the elections go, he could be forced to rein it in if the House and Senate are lost by a wide enough margin.

With U.S. troops still supposed to leave Iraq at the end of the month, there is evidence to say that he is dialing it back and just maintaining a blockade. If the U.S. troops leave and the Iranian-backed militias in Iraq do not disarm (they do not appear to be doing so), then that is going to give Trump some leverage when it comes to what to do next, especially if these militias continue to attack Saudi Arabia. The Houthis are an Iranian proxy and do owe Iran a lot when it comes to building them up. Over the last few years, they have become increasingly independent of Iran. This creates an issue that is primed to be a huge problem moving forward because Iran lacks the ability to directly control the Houthis compared to its other proxy forces, but the world isn't going to care about that; they are just going to want results.
