Oh, just looked it up.... audiobook is only available with AI-generated voice.  Now I'm not as sure.  Hmm.

This sounds great, thanks for initiating! I didn't realize this book was fiction, although I have heard the name passed around in Bitcoiner circles. 

I have really been enjoying the book discussions being had on SN and the podcast recently. I'll do my best to keep up on the chapters reading and zapping discussion comments.

 by Paul Rosenberg. I'm really excited about this book because I know only little rumors about it, but the rumors are very interesting: a group of people build a free virtual society on the internet that attracts freedom-lovers and grows so fast governments try to shut it down.

The core of cyberpunk ethos is a raw freedom afforded by the use of technology. Published in 2007 (I saw a 

 was first published in 2002 under a pseudonym, but haven't been able to confirm this: looking forward to a rabbit hole), I'm very curious how the last decade and a half of Bitcoin's existence will color the discussion. Even though it feels like we are losing freedoms more than gaining them, I'm hopeful that the positive-sum game of human creativity will save us yet.

Reading schedule: one chapter every two weeks, discussion posts on Saturdays

The chapters of the story are 50 to 70 pages long, which may be a little lengthy for reading one per week. Therefore, I propose reading one chapter every two weeks.

This lends itself nicely to also discussing the essays in the first appendix. Usually only a page or two, these short essays are composed by characters from the story and promise to be good ground for discussion. I will post the text from the essays on in-between weeks for discussion.

you should feel free to participate in the discussion without having read any of the book. Shaped by unique experiences, we benefit each other with our thoughts regardless of what we've read.
