We were out at an event today in a different part of town than we normally go to. I checked the map in my AlbyGo app and saw an ice cream place that supposedly accepts lightning.
We stopped in on the way home and I saw that they had a customer-facing Square terminal. Two rainbow sherbet cones later, I pressed the bitcoin button on the checkout screen and scanned the QR code from AlbyGo. Easy peasy, transaction complete.
This is an amazing experience. You don't need to announce your intent to pay with bitcoin to some confused normie behind the register. I think this is what bitcoinization will look like: parallel monetary options until merchants stop taking fiat.

It doesn't have to be hard
I'm looking forward to a world where I can use Bitcoin for everything. For now I rely heavily on credit cards to reduce my exposure to the fiat system as much as possible. I do have a heuristic for when I have options spending Bitcoin. I prioritize spending Bitcoin with those who offer the highest probability of them spending with me in the future. Hopefully there's more and more options to when I can rip the bandaid off and ditch the credit cards all together.
