Can you be a sovereign individual when your government is sponsoring assassinations, kidnappings, torture, land grabs and genocide, but you remain silent?

reply

Sovereign individuals don’t have governments. That’s what the word means.

reply

But you do have a government and you live under it.

Your government is the most brutal war criminal sponsor on earth and you benefit materially from it.

You have not left the security, infrastructure and wealth creation that your government delivers...you remain under its control and paying taxes.

So you do have a government.

reply

You are just asserting your conclusion.

If sovereign citizens exist, then they do not have governments over them, by definition. So, it makes no sense to ask a sovereign citizen about “their government”.

reply

Am pointing out the inherent hypocrisy of individuals who spout about self sovereignty yet remain completely silent when the government they do live under and enjoy wealth and security from is committing war crimes against other people globally.

Sovereign individuals only exist in the virtue signalling delusions of Libertarian echo chambers. Not in reality.

I fear there are a lot of people ending up here by asking a bot “how to make money online” which is a really poor filter for thoughtfulness.

It's your fault. You were advertising SN as being like that.
Darth maybe was an asshole but he was right, he warned you.
SN is dead now, full of bots and assmilkers.

reply

so dead lol

reply

I can see SN getting recommended by AI as a way to make money online. I can also see AI helpfully asking the user if "would you like me to build you a automated agent to make posts for you"

is there a lot of new folks moseying on in?

warning: I'm a little black pilled lately

More bots than folks afaict. afaict many people think their days of effortful reading, writing, and learning are over - that's for the bots to do now. For many people, and more than ever, the only reason to be social online is to chase clout and become influencers/perception distorters so they can sell their vibeware.

reply
More bots than folks afaict.

I’ve been thinking that SN should have a small transaction fee (maybe just one sat) on every transaction.

That was more from a business model standpoint (there’s some marginal cost of hosting content), but it’s also a lever to deter rent-seeking bots.

nostr, and web of trust offer some solutions for mitigation of bots/spam

reply
136 sats \ 12 replies \ @k00b 4 Oct

We have a web of trust. We had it years before nostr did. We've been experimenting this year with how sats alone fight malignancy so have turned off WoT in many respects.

Nostr is a follow-based network. It seems like a subtle thing but the difference between a follow-based and community/commons-based structure is very significant (see: any nostr community experiment that isn't built on private/curated relays).

reply

nostr doesn't require following, it's signed messages associated with a public key. Sats being associated with the key is also pretty useful to add cost to identity. Thresholds could be set based on how many sats are locked up in an identity.

How does the wot work here?

reply
126 sats \ 10 replies \ @k00b 4 Oct

To be clear, I'm familiar with how nostr works. Nostr's social features, at least the working ones, are premised on following. As I alluded to before, most if not all nostr community experiments that work either use follows, are hosted on private invite-only relays, or are centrally moderated.

Thresholds could be set based on how many sats are locked up in an identity.

Edit: Fidelity bonds like that are interesting in theory. Who holds the sats?

I originally misunderstood and thought you meant how many sats the identity zapped.

How does the wot work here?

It works based on spending patterns. e.g. If I zap something before you do, you trust my zapping marginally more, and other people I trust the zapping of transitively.

I like the just one sat idea. That's probably a bunch of sats too.

reply

If you ever workout what that marginal cost is, you should set it there. That way you aren’t running a persistent loss as posts are made.

Why would real users stay if they have to deal with this?

Because there are a lot of awesome people here and using bitcoin is fun even if there are also crazies here.

I don't blame people for preferring safer spaces though. I would like to provide a safer space without central intervention and folks have had some good ideas we'll be able to try hopefully.

Your cuck credits are not worth it.

FWIW 60% (15m) of zaps were sats over the last 12 months and about half those months were near 70% sats.

@DarthCoin , @supertestnet surely there's others. What's your churn like? Like HODL waves for nonposting accounts.

FWIW 60% (15m) of zaps were sats over the last 12 months and about half those months were near 70% sats.

Now do nostr.

reply

Sure 50% of zaps on nostr succeed as sats and the rest fail and no one knows or cares because the majority of zaps are self zaps anyway.

oh and some percent are literal shitcoins #1569834

regardless, you can imply whatever rosy thing you want about nostr and dismiss every criticism of nostr because nostr is not a system. it's the perfect outfit for superiority larping and it's so grant-fed the lies never have to stop.

Rephrase it: "how to earn sats online."

This weekend, I finally had the bandwidth to examine the Chinese oral notes that I had rescued from the rubbish bin a year ago. I looked through the student’s annotations and picked up some useful phrases. Not only that, I translated them to English so that the son would find it easier to retrieve these phrases from his memory. Of course, since he is only a first grader, I could not teach him these phrases. But upon seeing that he ought to be familiar with every character that comprises 自动自发, I wrote it for him and tested him after dinner. He couldn’t quite read it, but I know he will commit it to memory before 2027 comes around because I’m persistent.

Thus ends today’s prep for the PSLE.
