- The Summer Monsoon (June – August): Summer in the Himalayas coincides with the South Asian monsoon. While lower elevations face heavy rains and mudslides, the upper mountain is hit by massive snowfall, constant cloud cover, and zero visibility. This creates extreme avalanche risks and makes crossing the Khumbu Icefall lethal due to unstable, rapidly shifting ice.
- Winter Jet Stream (December – February): Winter isn't viable for standard expeditions either; the high-altitude jet stream parks directly over the summit, producing hurricane-force winds and temperatures plunging below -40°C.
