do your yoga clients know you're a bitcoiner and dirty capitalist?

reply

why, you should show them your full self!

reply

pff... what a ridiculous, loud-mouthed American thing to say.

I like having friends/acquintances. And I don't want all, even any, of our interactions to be about my narrow, quirky, currently unpopular interests

reply

most people who know me pretty well know i'm into bitcoin, because I've found some opportunity or another to mention it. But yeah, if they're not interested in talking about it, I don't press it.

reply

I don't even bring it up, basically ever. I don't go out of my way to obscure it (e.g., publicly display all these Bitcoin books across the house; and it's not difficult to find out via google or asking an AI), but I take some conversational pains not to mention it.

Maybe I overdo the privacy here (Hughes 1:4)

reply

I probably wouldn't go out of my way to not mention it. To me, that would basically mean that I'm not talking to a friend (which is fine).

reply

I get that with acquaintances but I expect my friends to be all-in.

reply

obvs with Bitcoin friends that's the case... but I have at least one close friend with whom it legit never comes up: there's no hiding or obfuscating and we can talk about whatever, it just never comes up and he has zero/negative interests in any sort of such convos or related ideas.

reply
it just never comes up

That's different. I don't talk to everyone about everything either. You'd probably have to be an insufferable bore to do so.

reply

but then I don't follow your point about "all-in"?

There's no meaningful difference in my interaction with this friend and, say, the best pal among my village acquaintances. One knows about my work and convictions and bitcoin stuff, the other doesn't (though suspects some of my market-friendly shit).

reply

"All-in" just means I have no concerns about the strength of the friendship, should they learn additional information about me: i.e. I could tell them anything without reservation.
