So I wonder if its just a signal to his base or if its an honest attempt to get the US back on a hard money standard.
It's all of the above:
  • He probably thinks it's a good idea.
  • He knows that his bill will improve his re-election chances.
  • He knows that his bill is going to fail.
Politics is all about convincing people that someone in the government is trying to help the People. Even if that "trying to help" is nothing more than submitting bills that are guaranteed to fail.
