This is an excellent addition to my discord server. Thank you very much for the experience

I really love the bot. Mainly because of LN support. Cause tip.cc already exists and I wouldn't have used this bot if not for LN. If this bot also gets similar traction as tip.cc, that would also help LN grow. And that is really something I want to see.
I was thinking maybe this bot might now have LN-URL withdrawals, or maybe it can't generate a QR Code for depositing, but it seems to have both of those features.
Just 2 things if added would take it to a whole new level
  1. Airdrops - Click a button and enter. Then airdrop splits between everyone who entered.
  2. Tipping to roles. This will make tipping multiple very easy, and it is especially useful for my server where I have to constantly pay multiple people (currently using tip.cc)

DiscoPay bot is really a great tool that demonstrates how bitcoin on Lightning permeates further and further into everything!
There are three main features with DiscoPay:
  1. Send: (Send to another member on that Discord server). Specify the amount (in sats). There's also a Memo field, optional. The bot responds to the Send command and the results are not seen by any other members than the recipient.
  2. Tip: (Give a Tip to another member). The bot will prompt you for the amount (in fiat, but of course, sats are what is sent, for that amount of fiat). The tip will be posted publicly in that channel. If a Memo is left, only the recipient will see the memo.
  3. Reaction: (React to a message with the ⚡️ emoji). This works like tip as well, but is not announced like a Tip is. The amount to have sent is a configurable setting.
Of course, there is also /deposit (generates an invoice for you to pay) and /withdraw (by paying the invoice you have pasted, or via LNUrl).
The Discord server run by the DiscoPay developer is where you can give it a try, as a member, or to get support. Only those with Manager server for that Discord server can add the bot for it.

The last link in that post (discord server:) responds "Invite invalid". To join the Discord server to give DiscoPay a spin (as a member of that Discord Server), use the link from just above the line: https://discord.gg/hcADNe9kPb

Oops sorry, the first invite link should work as well.

Thank you ❤️

I think in order for this to work, the chat platform itself needs to run on bitcoin.
We need to be able to pay for our servers with bitcoin too. Imagine if you can “boost” your server as well as tip in bitcoin.
I vaguely recall someone building a discord type thing on Nostr.

Discord has been the beneficiary of the network effect. Just like with replacing Twitter, it won't happen overnight.

honestly, i don’t think it’s network effect as much as just having a good product. bottom line is that discord alternatives are simply inferior in terms of UX

Thanks for the JP tool, I'll learn how to use it and share it with some friends!

Imagine when DIscoPay adds Lightning Network support!
For Discord servers with DiscoPay bot, this will be the very first exposure to using and transacting in bitcoin for so many people who might not otherwise have ever touched bitcoin.
DiscoPay will be their first bitcoin wallet. Yes, I know ... custodial wallet, not your keys, etc., but with Lightning network transactions being ultra cheap, anyone can move funds (withdraw) beyond what they plan to use in the near term into their own wallet that has LN support.
Discord has 150 million monthly active users, of over 400 million registered users.

One can dream. I would work to add lightning support to discord in a heartbeat, given the opportunity.
For now, a simple bot is the best we can hope for.
