This was a great post on what the space looked like in 2010 (and why almost nobody knew what bitcoin was when it was valued at under $1 (and under $0.01 for the first half of the year).
How did people know about bitcoin in 2010 https://teddit.net/r/Bitcoin/comments/hthmur
Or the actual r/Bitcoin post (which was automatically archived, several years ago): https://reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/hthmur
I've heard of a lot of people that first heard about Bitcoin from the Slashdot article and ignored it. I was probably one of them since I know I visited Slashdot frequently at the time.

Reddit is a total piece of dogshit.
Why do they archive (lock) threads after six months? Why can't I leave a comment to that post?

I first heard about it from Make Magazine and 2600 Magazine. I've really got to subscribe to both of those again.

It spread in parallel through 2 threads: the scientific community and the Linux/Tor/hacking/WikiLeaks community.
I hope the Bitcoin peeps never forget the legacy of the later one!
