I think fees onchain will be translated a bit into lightning.

Forgive my ignorance as my knowledge of exactly how the lightning network works is murky at best, but, is there a future where splicing and channel rebalancing, conjoining etc is a potential solution to these types of channel closures? I read some of the comments in that reddit thread and a few of them really seem dejected about lightning but it still is in a state experimental infancy in the grand scheme of things.
