Wouldn't this direction make more sense?
I think the houses of snakes spiral in this direction
You have a keen eye! I realised this a few days into my streak but prefer it facing right.
BUT! In my defence, in rare cases snails can be "left handed" and live in sinistral shells which rotate the opposite way! These poor things have difficulty reproducing because they can only mate with fellow lefties.
Here in the UK there was a nationwide plea to find one particularly famous left-handed snail (Jeremy) a partner. See here:
Jeremy passed away on 11th October 2017, surrounded by their 56 loving children.

Ah, oh, haha, I wasn't thinking about the direction (if it's on the left or right side), just about the spiral (if it goes clockwise outwards or counter-clockwise).
But isn't your snail right handed? So you are actually correct and I am wrong in this regard?
For example, see this pictures:
a right-coiling snail, clockwise outwards
jeremy, the "lefty" snail (top), counter-clockwise outwards
Your snail has the coil on the right / "correct" side but the spiral goes counter-clockwise (beginning from the center) which isn't how snail shells spiral
My snail has the coil on the left / "wrong" side but the spiral also goes counter-clockwise which is how snail shells spiral like Jeremys.
For further illustration:
@ doesn't match the spiral direction
@ matches the spiral direction
