Pretty much the title.
I'd say it's unacceptable to have more than 20k because why burden the site with providing you banking services. Maybe they should charge a storage fee
reply
20,000 is just a few dollars…

It feels like more
reply
And yet, so much more

It really depends on what's acceptable to you. The general advice I'd give for custodial services is "as much as you are willing to lose."
You shouldn't trust SN or the security of SN and assume we could rug pull you or get hacked and robbed at any moment.

The answer is different for me than I would recommend to others.
I know where the owner of this site lives.

Let’s go rob him then

Accountability maximalist.

Trust is a scaling solution as paul miller would say. Another friend that knows where @k00b lives

Thanks to Jack's random megazap I happen to test the limits and now I know that you can't send to SN more than 1M sats ⚡ in one transaction...
reply
This brings up the question what is an acceptable max size transaction for LN? I would say 1M sounds good.
reply
I've sent up to 8M sats over LN in one transaction.
reply
Why would you want arbitrary restrictions?
reply
just so the nodes knows what to prepare for and what users can expect. i think most protocols has a limit for data and what not that it will handle at a time

welcome to SN!
nobody really sets “acceptable” levels (although there is a 1m sat limit), it’s mostly a matter of personal preference.
some people regularly tip posts and comments with 10,000+ sats while others read this site regularly but never even fund their account.
ps. nice cowboy hat! 🤠

I saw I had that, what does it mean?

it’s protection from the elements for your journey through the wild west, make sure you hang onto it!

I’ve got 589 sats. 😂

I withdraw every 10 sats accumulated

No one should dictate what is "acceptable"to you ..... you decide for your self
I would suggest the following considerations in any app or wallet
  • Is it custodial or non custodial
  • Do I zap posts a lot or very little (personal SN activity)
  • Do I buy things on LN or not
All and all almost everybody keeps less than 1% on LN network :)

Good question, I though people stacked sats here as karma points. Better to withdraw to a custodial wallet once in a while.

Couple thousand every month.
More if you want the hive mind to teach you something & offer a larger bounty

Absolutely below 1 Bitcoin

Every sat you leave on here is a step backwards from becoming a sovereign individual!

10K sats, that would be my limit.
