The person who made this, Con Kolivas, is also the creator of cgminer, one of the most popular open source software for mining, also one of the earliest.
He is an Australian anaesthetist, a brilliant person. He has done so much work for Bitcoin.

He also made the brainfuck scheduler for Linux (unfortunately never made it upstream, was later renamed to MuQSS and then abandoned)
It was pretty nice, since it was designed for low latency applications like audio and also in my experience my system was much more responsive under high CPU usage (like a compiler running) compared to CFS

Why would you pool for solo mining
reply
Note: This is NOT a pool despite its name, it is a service to allow miners to mine solo as you cannot mine directly to a bitcoin core node
reply
Sure 2% might be worth the convenience… but I think for small solo miners the point is to demonstrate full decentralization and keep 100% if you win the hash lotto
reply
The thing is that you need to have your node well connected, otherwise you might lose the block.
It's definitely worth the 2% to not have to worry about any network issues.
